Given the current state of our economy, there is a growing trend of utilizing non-precious metals. I think this trend is primarily the result of the economy and the higher prices for gold and silver which has risen in price by as much as four times during the last ten years. I still use some sterling silver in my creations, however more and more I have been trying to create styles in metals such as bronze, brass, german silver and copper. After all, most of the first jewelry designs from thousands of years ago were done in bronze and copper. Just visit your local mall and you will find handcrafted jewelry made from steel, titanium, bronze and copper. The fine jewelry stores tend to now offer a lot more sterling silver and plated silver than in the past simply because of the very high prices of gold, but even they have a lot of items in stainless steel.
